2009: Tram No. 2 Restored

In June 2009 Tram No. 2 was returned to Victor Harbor after a 2 year restoration project. The firm that restored the historic Glenelg electric tram cars, All Transport Repairs, was contracted to undertake the work.

The entire bodywork, which included the upper level, seating, windows, stairs and landings, was removed from the tram chassis to allow a complete rebuild of the rolling chassis.

New paintwork applied.

The wooden side panels were replaced with fibreglass replicas to improve serviceability and for ease of future restoration. Hydraulic disc brakes were added, similar to Tram No. 1 during its 3 year restoration project. Improved lighting and a multitude of other minor improvements were made.

Tram No. 2 returns after restoration.

Tram No. 2 was returned to Victor Harbor from Wingfield on a low-loader and lifted off by a crane. It then took up residence once more in the Tram Barn on 30 June 2009.

A Tribute to the Past The Victor Harbor Tramway prides itself preserving and sharing the heritage of the Horse Drawn Tram Service, not only in the horses and trams, but also in the living heritage carried in the minds of our staff, volunteers and passengers over time. This photo of Geoff Pearson and his mother was taken in 1947. Geoff was an early fan of the Tramway, and these days he can be found around the stables on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Geoff will gladly chat about his memories of the Tramway over the years. What was the number of the tram that Geoff rode in 1947?
