The Horse Drawn Tram in Victor Harbor on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, is a tourism icon for the region and the City of Victor Harbor, and a favourite experience of many Adelaide, interstate and overseas visitors. The trams operate 365 days a year across the Causeway to Granite Island. The trams are exact replicas of those first used in the 1800s. The service began in December 1894 and became a popular tourist attraction. Today a team of six magnificent Clydesdale horses alternate shifts in drawing the trams. High tech-roller bearings that require little effort to mobilise the trams are used. A brief interview with the Co-ordinator follows. (Close) |
